Supporting sustainability teams in the preparation of a circular and inclusive project with waste pickers
Geography
Cambodia
Context
As part of its sustainable development strategy, our client committed to having "zero waste to landfill" by 2030 in its airports’ operations and was looking for new opportunities to reduce the environmental impact of its waste management activities while maximizing its social and economic potential.
Solution
To meet this ambition, InclusEO proposed to launch an inclusive recycling project. The project’s objectives are to improve the airports’ waste management and strengthen their collection and recycling levels while organizing the work of waste collectors and improving their lives and work.
It provides our client with an excellent opportunity to further contribute to community development and impact the lives of the communities in which it operates, in line with the company's commitment to global social responsibility.
InclusEO’s work was structured around 4 main steps:
- Preliminary research:
- 4 country analysis with identification of the specific local waste management context (legislation, actors, etc.) and their environmental and social issues.
- Diagnosis:
- Organization of a field visit in Cambodia to meet with potential partners (NGOs, development agencies, private companies, start-ups, and social enterprises).
- Project design:
- Design the roadmap and main action plan to launch the project.
- First Theory of Change (business, social and environmental impacts within the next 3 years)
- Replication:
- Design of an Inclusive Recycling guide to build inclusive recycling projects in other geographies of our clients’ airports and other business sectors such as construction.
Expected outcomes
- Set up and replicate innovative projects with a triple bottom line (social, environmental, business).
- Capacity building of the sustainability teams on the topic of waste management and inclusive recycling.
